Kabul Prices: Sugar and Gold Down, Cooking Oil Up

The prices of sugar and gold have decreased in Kabul, while cooking oil prices have increased. According to Zmarai Safi, head of the Food Traders' Association, a 49kg bag of Indian sugar now costs 2,600 Afghanis (afs), down from 2,650 afs previously. In contrast, a 16-litre bottle of Malaysian cooking oil has risen in price to 2,000 afs, up from 1,950 afs.

The prices of other essential food items have remained unchanged. A 49kg bag of Kazakh flour still costs 1,600 afs, and a 24kg bag of Indian rice remains at 2,500 afs. The prices of black tea and green tea also remain the same, with one kilogramme costing 380 afs and 350 afs respectively.

Gold prices have also decreased in Kabul. According to Mohammad Fawad, a jeweller in the Timor Shahi area, one gramme of Arabian gold now costs 7,270 afs, down from 7,350 afs previously. Similarly, Russian gold has dropped in price to 5,800 afs per gramme, down from 5,850 afs.

The prices of fuel remain unchanged, with one litre of petrol costing 89 afs and diesel at 79 afs per litre. One kilogramme of liquefied gas is still available for 65 afs.
