Kalshi Breaks New Ground with Gold and Silver Perpetual Futures Approval
Kalshi, a US-based prediction market platform, has received approval from the Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) to launch perpetual futures contracts linked to gold and silver prices in the United States. This marks Kalshi's first authorization to offer non-cryptocurrency based perpetual futures.
The relevant trades officially launched on the Kalshi platform on Thursday. Since launching its cryptocurrency-based perpetual futures contracts in late May, the platform has seen trading volume reach $44 billion, with a notional trading volume of over $400 million achieved in seven months.
According to Udesh Jha, Chief Risk Officer at Kalshi Klear, the clearinghouse under Kalshi, the company chose precious metals as the next asset class for launching perpetual futures due to strong market interest. Gold and silver have drawn significant attention from investors amid rising inflation.
