Kalshi, a US-based prediction-market platform, has launched perpetual futures tied to gold and silver prices after securing approval from the Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC).

The company began trading gold and silver perpetual futures on September 10, just two days after receiving CFTC approval. Kalshi had applied for approval in July.

Udesh Jha, chief risk officer at KalshiClear, the clearinghouse arm of Kalshi, said that precious metals like gold and silver offer a compelling investment case related to inflation. He noted that investor demand for these metals is strong, citing the fact that cumulative trading volume in commodity-related prediction contracts tied to metals and crude oil topped $400 million within seven months of launch.

Kalshi had previously launched crypto perpetual futures in the US after securing CFTC approval in May. The company reports that cumulative notional trading volume in crypto perpetual futures has reached $44 billion.
