Kazakhstan Grain Harvest Nears 20 Million Tons Amid Global Wheat Supply Uncertainty

Kazakhstan's grain harvest is on track to exceed its long-term average despite dry and hot weather in parts of the country. By late September, farmers had harvested nearly 20 million metric tons of grain from 13.5 million hectares, or 83% of Kazakhstan's grain-growing area.

The average yield was 14.7 centners per hectare, which is significantly higher than expected under comparable dry conditions in previous years. Deputy Agriculture Minister Azat Sultanov said that yields had often fallen to 8-9 centners per hectare in such cases.

The disruption to Russian and Ukrainian exports through the Black Sea due to attacks on vessels and port infrastructure has created uncertainty in global wheat supplies. Kazakhstan's landlocked location remains a constraint, with transport costs and export corridor capacity impacting its competitiveness in distant markets.
