US-Iran Talks Fuel Oil Price Volatility, Gold Stabilizes
Oil prices experienced a slight increase on Friday as uncertainty surrounding talks between the United States and Iran continued. The Brent crude futures for the nearest delivery month rose by $0.62, or 0.7%, to reach $84.39 per barrel, while U.S. West Texas Intermediate crude increased by $0.61, or 0.7%, to $80.95 per barrel.
The price hike comes after oil prices dropped nearly 7% in the previous session to record its lowest level in three weeks. The instability is largely due to the ongoing tensions between the US and Iran, which has raised concerns about global supplies and energy prices.
Despite the increase, analysts are warning that the downward trend remains fragile and any new military escalation or targeting of oil tankers in the Strait of Hormuz could push prices up again. The Strait of Hormuz continues to be a point of contention between Washington and Tehran, with the US asserting that Iran has committed to keeping the passage open.
On the other hand, gold prices stabilized amid ongoing tensions in the Middle East, with investors awaiting the release of important U.S. economic data that might determine the direction of U.S. monetary policy in the coming period. The price of gold remained stable at $4062.39 per ounce, while U.S. gold futures rose by 0.6% to $4055.10 per ounce.
