Kazakhstan Oil Production Disrupted Amid Drone Attacks Blamed on Ukraine
Kazakhstan's oil production has been severely impacted due to drone attacks blamed on Ukraine. The country's main export terminal on the Black Sea was shut down, causing a significant disruption in oil shipments. Kazakh President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev has called for an immediate suspension of hostilities and further talks brokered by Western powers.
Tokayev praised Russian leader Vladimir Putin's 'diplomatic flexibility' and named Russia among the 'great powers' that could guarantee peace in Ukraine. However, Kazakhstan has emphasized its non-recognition of occupied Ukrainian regions as part of Russia.
The disruption is particularly concerning for Kazakhstan, which relies heavily on oil exports to fund its economy. The country's energy ministry stated that it would only resume shipments once the situation was normalized. Regional expert Daniil Kislov warned that the attack is a 'direct strike on the economy and budget.'
