Kenya to Extract Oil from Turkana Before December, Says Ruto
Kenya is set to begin extracting oil from Turkana before December this year, according to President William Ruto. The president stated that transportation of crude from Turkana will also commence by then.
The government is moving forward with the planned Lamu refinery project, which will process crude from Turkana alongside international supplies. The refinery's capacity is expected to be 700,000 barrels per day, but Ruto noted that Kenya's domestic production cannot meet this requirement.
To address this, the government has agreed with Dangote to invest in a pipeline from Lamu to Turkana, allowing oil to be transported from Turkana to Lamu. The Lamu refinery will produce aviation fuel and other petroleum products for both domestic and regional markets.
