Kenya's Inflation Rate Hits 6.8 Percent Amid Core Price Pressures
Kenya's annual inflation rate rose to 6.8 percent in September from 6.6 percent in August, driven by core inflation which climbed to 4.0 percent from 3.4 percent.
The consumer price index rose to 156.47 from 155.85 in August, a monthly gain of 0.4 percent.
Food and transport costs were the main contributors to the annual increase, accounting for over 57 percent of the index.
The dry spell had created shortages of beef and milk, pushing up vegetable prices, while oil prices kept fuel costs high.
