Kingfisher Oil Plant Hits 99%, Uganda Nears First Oil Production

Uganda's oil production is nearing its first milestone as the Central Processing Facility (CPF) at the Kingfisher Development Area has reached 99% completion. According to Seith Muhumuza, head of stakeholder management for the Petroleum Authority of Uganda (PAU), the CPF will process up to 40,000 barrels of crude oil per day at peak.

The facility, operated by CNOOC, is undergoing pre-commissioning work and commissioning work. The Kingfisher project aims to produce 230,000 barrels of oil per day, with 190,000 barrels coming from the Tilenga project operated by TotalEnergies.

The PAU officials made an oversight visit to the site, accompanied by State Minister for Economic Monitoring Sandra Santa Alum. Although Kingfisher is nearly ready for first oil production, Minister Alum cautioned that it alone cannot enable commercial production, and other projects must be completed before oil can start flowing.
