Kneehill County Demands Meeting Over Unpaid Oil and Gas Taxes
Kneehill County council in Alberta has called for a meeting with Minister of Municipal Affairs Dan Williams to discuss unpaid property taxes from the oil and gas industry.
The issue has been a hot topic among rural municipalities, with unpaid debts ranging from hundreds of thousands to millions of dollars.
Reeve Lonnie McCook expressed skepticism about discussing the matter with Minister Williams, calling it 'pretty much smoke and mirrors.'
Councillor Jerry Wittstock argued that the provincial government should be doing its job in ensuring oil and gas companies pay their taxes, including suspending licenses if necessary.
