Korea Announces $200B US Energy Investment Including Massive Alaska LNG Project
South Korea has announced plans to invest up to $200 billion in US energy infrastructure, as part of its trade agreement with Washington. The investment package includes a proposed Alaska liquefied natural gas (LNG) project, which is expected to account for approximately $54 billion.
The Alaska LNG project involves building an 807-mile pipeline connecting Alaska's North Slope natural gas resources with a liquefaction and export facility in southern Alaska. This infrastructure would enable the transportation of natural gas to Asian markets through LNG shipping.
While the investment is significant, it's worth noting that individual projects are subject to commercial viability reviews and applicable legal requirements. Work on Alaska LNG will proceed 'subject to commercial reasonableness' under the strategic investment memorandum of understanding.
