Korea Pushes Back on Trump's Alaska LNG Investment Claim
The Trump administration announced that South Korea would invest $54 billion in an Alaska liquefied natural gas project. However, Seoul disputes this claim, stating it only agreed to invest if the project proves economically viable.
Korean Industry Minister Kim Jung-kwan said that what was reported by the US went beyond what had been agreed upon. He expressed regret to US Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick that the announcement exceeded the terms of their agreement.
The Korean government emphasized that it will only proceed with the project if it is commercially viable. This statement contradicts the Trump administration's claim that South Korea had committed to investing in the project without conditions.
