Korea-US Security Talks Stall Over Alaska LNG Dispute
The Korea-US security talks are facing a new hurdle due to a dispute over the Alaska LNG project.
Last year, Seoul pledged $350 billion in investments as part of a trade deal with Washington, and its Ministry of Trade, Industry and Resources announced the first project under that package - a $22.3 billion gas-fired power plant in Texas.
However, US President Donald Trump stated that Korea will invest $54 billion in the Alaska liquefied natural gas (LNG) project, which Seoul has denied.
Trump maintained pressure on Friday, saying 'I didn't jump the gun' and 'let's see if they don't want to do it. That's okay with me.' He also claimed that the agreement included an $8.4 billion enhanced oil recovery project, which does not appear in the investment fact sheet.
