Krasnodar Emergency: Drone Strikes Disrupt Grain Exports and Impact Black Sea Trade

The Krasnodar region in Russia has declared a state of emergency due to Ukrainian drone attacks on grain export infrastructure. The attacks have suspended port operations and disrupted shipping in the Black Sea, according to Regional Governor Veniamin Kondratyev.

Krasnodar is a major agricultural producer, harvesting 11.4 million metric tons of grain and pulses this year, nearly 2 million tons more than last year. However, the drone attacks have left farmers with an oversupply of grain as they are unable to sell much of their yields.

The Black Sea Grain Initiative, which allows for the safe export of Ukrainian grain, was suspended after Russia withdrew from the agreement in January this year. The Kremlin said there have been further diplomatic contacts about a proposal by Turkey for the safe passage of grain via the Black Sea, and that Russia is finding alternate routes for its grain exports.
