A major long-term sale and purchase agreement has been signed between Ksi Lisims LNG and Uniper, a German energy company. Under the deal, Uniper will purchase two million tonnes per year (Mtpa) of liquefied natural gas from the proposed floating facility north of Prince Rupert.

The agreement marks a significant step in strengthening the strategic energy partnership between Canada and Germany, according to a joint press release.

Ksi Lisims LNG is still awaiting a final investment decision, but the deal with Uniper could help secure it. The project has already secured deals with Shell, TotalÉnergies, and SEFE, bringing the total contracted capacity to 7 Mtpa of a projected 12 Mtpa total capacity.

The Ksi Lisims facility would be supplied by the Prince Rupert Gas Transmission (PRGT) pipeline, which is currently under construction. However, the pipeline faces legal challenges in the B.C. Supreme Court.
