Kumho Engineering & Construction Completes Korea's First Fuel Conversion Project
Kumho Engineering & Construction has announced that it will complete the country's first fuel conversion project, the Gumi Natural Gas Power Plant. This milestone marks a significant step towards energy conversion in Korea.
The power plant is a 500MW facility located at the 5th National Industrial Complex in Gumi High-Tech Valley, Gyeongsangbuk-do. It will replace Taean Coal-fired Power Plant 1 with natural gas combined cycle power, aligning with the government's carbon neutrality policy.
The Gumi Natural Gas Power Plant uses a high-efficiency combined thermal power method that generates electricity first in a gas turbine by burning natural gas and then produces additional electricity by operating a steam turbine with steam produced using waste heat generated in the process.
When fully operational, the power plant is expected to increase Gumi City's power independence rate from 6% to 30%. It will also supply power stably to the Gumi High-Tech Valley and contribute to the creation of a semiconductor specialized complex.
