Kurdistan Region Oil Production Plummets Amid Security Risks

Kurdistan Region oil production has plummeted by nearly 95% at two key fields due to security conditions and the Iran war, according to a report from ShaMaran Petroleum.

The company's Atrush and Sarsang blocks in Duhok province saw average daily oil production drop to 1,900 barrels per day (bpd) in the second quarter of 2026, down from 35,900 bpd in the first quarter and 63,800 bpd a year ago.

Despite this significant decline, rising international crude prices - which have reached above $82 per barrel - offset some of the losses for ShaMaran. The company reported an average realized price of $84.23 per barrel across both blocks in the second quarter, a 154% increase over the fourth-quarter 2025 realized price of $33.12 per barrel.

However, total crude lifted and sold from both blocks reached just 153,000 barrels in the second quarter, down from 3.2 million barrels in the first quarter and 5.86 million barrels a year ago.
