Kuwait Secures $16B Pipeline Lease Deal with Global Investment Firms
Kuwait has signed a $16 billion leasing agreement with Blackstone, Brookfield Asset Management, and KKR for its crude pipelines. The deal will provide Kuwait Oil Company (KOC) with upfront proceeds of $7.85 billion to boost its capital expenditure.
The joint venture will see the consortium lease use rights to KOC's 13 pipelines in exchange for a volume-based tariff over a period of 20 and a half years. KOC will retain a 51% majority stake in the venture, with the remaining 49% held by the three investment firms.
The deal is seen as a boost to Kuwait's energy sector, which has been impacted by Iranian strikes on its infrastructure. The agreement also marks KKR's first direct investment in Kuwait, following similar investments in Saudi Arabia and other Middle Eastern countries.
