Ladakh's Lieutenant Governor Vinai Kumar Saxena has announced a significant reduction in Value-Added Tax (VAT) on natural gas, including CNG and PNG, from 21% to 5%. This move aims to promote affordable clean energy and improve the ease of living for residents in the Union Territory.

The VAT reduction is expected to give a major boost to the Centre's plan to roll out a city gas distribution network in Ladakh. Saxena said the decision would help offset the high cost of transporting energy due to the difficult terrain and extreme climatic conditions in the region.

Ladakh has aligned itself with states like Gujarat, Andhra Pradesh, and Karnataka by reducing VAT on natural gas. This move is in line with Prime Minister Narendra Modi's vision for a sustainable and carbon-neutral future.
