Latin America's Energy Security Takes Center Stage with Ecuador LNG Plans

Ecuador's state oil and gas company Petroecuador is exploring interest in an LNG import project to boost energy security. The nation's government is seeking to shore up its energy supply, which has been affected by a drought that has raised power demand.

Colombia's plans for an LNG terminal are also gaining momentum, with the country aiming to build a 150 MMcf/d facility. In contrast, Ecuador is eyeing a smaller import project of around 60-100 MMcf/d.

The move comes as Latin American countries look to diversify their energy sources and reduce reliance on fossil fuels. Petroecuador's LNG import plan is expected to provide a much-needed boost to the country's energy security, particularly during times of drought when power demand increases.
