Lebanon Approves LNG Conversion Project in Deir Ammar
The Lebanese government has approved a project to convert liquefied natural gas (LNG) into natural gas in the Deir Ammar region, aiming to alleviate the country's energy deficit. The scheme involves a partnership between the public and private sectors, with no funding details yet provided.
The infrastructure will be based on a floating storage and regasification unit, which can receive LNG transported by ship, convert it back into gas, and inject it into the energy installations. This project does not create a new Lebanese gas resource but rather an additional way to import fuel.
Deir Ammar was chosen due to its strategic location in northern Lebanon, where several energy infrastructures and regional connection projects are already concentrated. The government's decision has sparked hopes that it could become a hub for energy trade in the region.
