Libyan Oil Output Threatened by Security Forces Demanding Transfer
Libya's oil production remains at around 1.4 million barrels per day despite a recent threat to its output from the Petroleum Facilities Guard (PGF), the National Oil Corporation (NOC) said.
The PGF, which provides security for Libya's oil fields and pipelines, has been demanding that it be transferred under the NOC's control, both financially and administratively. Currently, it operates under the defence ministry.
As a result of this dispute, the PGF implemented a partial production cut at several fields, including Wafa, Al-Khamsa, and El Feel, from Tuesday onwards. If its demands are not met, the PGF has threatened to completely shut down oil production in Libya.
NOC Chairman Massoud Suleman warned that if this happens, it may declare force majeure, which would effectively excuse the NOC from fulfilling its contracts due to circumstances beyond its control.
