Lincoln School Committee Approves Contracts, Cites Residential Development Concerns
The Lincoln School Committee in Rhode Island has approved several key contracts and agreements for the upcoming school year. These include vendor contracts, energy rate deals with NRG and Direct Energy, and a Stage I capital filing to the RIDE School Building Authority.
The committee also locked in natural gas and electricity supply rates for nine months, from October 1 through June 30, at $0.6274 per therm and $0.128 per kilowatt-hour respectively.
A Stage I application is a precursor to submitting a capital plan, which would include projects such as elementary school HVAC upgrades and window replacements. This would keep the district eligible for state reimbursement if the project moves forward in the future.
The committee also discussed concerns about an impending residential development that could send between 100-150 students to Saylesville Elementary School, which is already at capacity.
