LNG Arrives in Antigua and Barbuda by 2026 Amid Shift to Cleaner Energy

Antigua and Barbuda is on track to receive its first shipment of liquefied natural gas (LNG) before the end of 2026. According to Utilities Minister Melford Nicholas, dredging work required to accommodate LNG vessels has been completed to an acceptable depth of approximately 6.5 metres.

The transition from diesel to LNG at the power plant at Crabbes is part of a wider hybrid energy strategy that combines cleaner fossil fuels with solar, wind and battery-storage systems.

Nicholas said that this move will result in lower fuel costs and help reduce some of the charges currently affecting customers. He also stated that combining LNG with renewable energy will reduce Antigua and Barbuda's exposure to sudden increases in international oil prices.
