LNG Canada Doubles Capacity with Phase 2 Approval

The partners in LNG Canada have made a final investment decision on Phase 2 of the Kitimat, British Columbia export terminal. The expansion will double nameplate capacity from 14 million tonnes per annum to 28 million.

The partners are Shell (40%), PETRONAS (25%), PetroChina (15%), Mitsubishi Corporation (15%), and KOGAS (5%). Shell says commercial operations from Phase 2 are expected to begin in the early 2030s.

Phase 2 adds two liquefaction trains, an LNG storage tank, a condensate tank, and a loading berth. Upstream, five new compressor stations will be built for the Coastal GasLink pipeline.
