LNG Canada Expands in Kitimat with Phase 2 Project

LNG Canada has announced that it will proceed with its Phase 2 expansion project in Kitimat, British Columbia. The company is a joint venture between Shell and Petronas, along with PetroChina, Mitsubishi Corp., and KOGAS.

The Phase 1 of the project began shipping liquefied natural gas last year, and this expansion will add two more LNG processing units, an additional storage tank, and other infrastructure. The expanded pipeline capacity is being built in collaboration with Coastal GasLink.

This news comes after reports of equipment issues at the facility, resulting in excessive flaring. While the company has stated that this is a normal part of project startup, environmental groups have raised concerns about health and safety impacts.
