LNG Companies Fund Redfish Restocking Program in Louisiana
Two liquefied natural gas providers, Cameron LNG and its controlling partner Sempra Infrastructure, have contributed to a redfish restocking program in Louisiana's coastal areas. The operation released over 150,000 hatchery-raised young redfish, known as fingerlings, near Grand Isle, Lake Calcasieu, and New Orleans.
The companies' gesture has been met with mixed reactions from local fishermen. Some thanked them for the effort but suggested that creating more wildlife habitat would be even more helpful.
Justin Lyons, a Cameron Parish fishing guide, noted that if energy providers invested in creating edge habitats or reef habitats, it would be easier for fishing guides to appreciate their efforts while catching fish off the structures they built.
