LNG Industry Sees Major Milestones as Glenfarne Secures FERC Extension

Glenfarne's Magnolia LNG has secured a five-year extension from the US Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) to complete construction and place into service its planned liquefaction and export plant in Louisiana. The extension was granted on September 23, 2026.

The project aims to supply liquefied natural gas (LNG) to global markets. In other LNG news, TotalEnergies and Amni have taken the final investment decision for the development of the Ima gas project offshore Nigeria to supply Nigeria LNG's Bonny Island export plant.

FERC has also released a draft environmental impact statement for Cheniere's planned Corpus Christi Liquefaction Stage IV expansion project in Texas. The regulator concluded that construction and operation of the LNG project would result in 'some adverse environmental effects; however, effects would be reduced to less-than-significant levels.'
