LNG Industry's Redfish Restocking Plan Questioned by Southwest Louisiana Fishermen

Fishermen in Southwest Louisiana have expressed skepticism over the liquified natural gas (LNG) industry's efforts to boost local fisheries. The Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries recently released 150,000 hatchery-raised redfish into coastal waters, which was funded by Cameron LNG and Sempra Infrastructure.

The restocking effort, which cost approximately $6 per fish, is seen as a positive gesture by the fishing community. However, fishermen argue that restoring marsh and fish habitat would provide greater long-term benefits than restocking alone.

Justin Lyons, a fishing guide from Cameron Parish, stated that 'habitat replacement is more important' in helping young fish survive and grow. He emphasized the need for more investment in coastal restoration to create sustainable marshlands.
