A gas supply crisis has been affecting Bangladesh, causing power shortages and load-shedding across the country. According to Dr. Zahed Ur Rahman, Prime Minister's Information and Broadcasting Adviser, the crisis is expected to ease gradually as a major LNG terminal resumes normal operations.

The terminal experienced an accident in August 2026, resulting in a significant shortfall in gas supply. Dr. Zahed explained that Bangladesh requires around 3,800 million cubic feet of gas per day but has not been able to meet this level due to domestic gas production shortfalls and reliance on LNG imports.

The adviser noted that one of the country's two operational Floating LNG terminals is currently unable to operate at full capacity following a recent fire incident. As a result, gas supply to the national grid has fallen significantly, leading to power shortages and load-shedding in widespread areas outside Dhaka.
