Long Island Gas Prices Top $4 as Iran Conflict Disrupts Oil Supplies
Long Island gasoline prices have soared to $4 per gallon for the second consecutive day, fueled by the ongoing conflict between the US and Iran. The average price of regular unleaded gas on Monday was $4.03 per gallon, up from Sunday's $4.025, according to AAA.
The disruption in oil production and transportation through the Strait of Hormuz has caused prices to spike. About 20% of the world's oil passes through this waterway, making it a critical chokepoint for global energy supplies.
Patrick De Haan, head of petroleum analysis for GasBuddy, predicts another increase in gas prices due to the conflict and Ukraine's attack on Russian oil refineries.
