Loonie Slips Below August Lows as Oil Prices Fall
The Canadian dollar has declined to its lowest close since early August, finishing at US$0.7110 or US$1=C$1.4064 on Tuesday.
This represents a slight decrease from Monday's closing rate of US$0.7132 or US$1=US$1.4021.
The United States Dollar Index also rose by 0.10 of a point to reach 100.53.
Crude oil prices have dropped due to reports that the East-West pipeline in Saudi Arabia has partially resumed operations, and vessels from the Port of Yanbu are set to sail soon.
West Texas Intermediate crude oil fell by US$1.19 per barrel to US$94.59, while Brent crude oil retreated by US$2.06/barrel to US$98.28.
