The Canadian dollar remained relatively stable on Thursday, closing at US$0.7134 or US$1=C$1.4018.

This is a slight increase from Wednesday's close of US$0.7130 or US$1=US$1.4026.

In contrast, the United States Dollar Index saw a 0.27 point increase to 99.95.

Crude oil prices surged due to increased optimism over a potential deal to reopen the Strait of Hormuz, despite caution following Wednesday's attacks on Saudi oil tankers by Iran-backed Houthi rebels.

West Texas Intermediate rose US$2.52 per barrel to US$77.74, while Brent crude oil gained US$3.45/barrel at US$82.90.
