Louisiana Gas Prices Skyrocket to Highest Level Since Summer 2022
Louisiana's average gas price has reached its highest level since summer 2022, according to AAA. The statewide average for regular unleaded is now at $3.68 a gallon, up from $3.56 just one week ago.
The rising cost of gas is affecting drivers across the state, with some saying they have to plan their trips more strategically due to the higher prices.
'Baton Rouge, Lafayette, all the parishes. It affects all of us because you have to pump gas every other day,' said Deric Jones, a career outreach specialist who travels across the state helping veterans find jobs and connect with training opportunities.
Rising crude oil prices, driven by the conflict in Iran, are another factor behind higher prices at the pump. 'If it costs more to take one thing from point A to point B on those trucks, it's gonna cost you more because the stores are going to be passing along that additional cost,' said AAA spokesperson Carly McKinnis.
Prices could ease if tensions calm and oil markets stabilize. McKinnis believes normalization of relations between countries will lead to a decrease in prices: 'If we can normalize relations between these countries and get things to kind of calm down, where there's not new attacks every day, that's certainly gonna calm things down in the oil market.'
