Low Gas Prices Fail to Reach Americans Due to Infrastructure Bottleneck
EQT Corporation CEO Toby Z. Rice argues that Americans are not benefiting from low natural gas prices due to inadequate infrastructure. He points out the gap between prices in gas-producing regions and what consumers pay in areas with limited pipeline capacity.
Rice notes that EQT expects to sell natural gas from Appalachia this winter for around $4, while New England could see prices near $20 in January. 'This is absolutely unacceptable,' he said. 'The only way to fix this is to get more energy infrastructure built.'
Rice believes that permitting reform is essential to accelerate the construction of necessary infrastructure and move energy supplies to consumers. He emphasizes that the country has sufficient natural gas resources but needs to address the infrastructure bottleneck.
