Lukaszuk Calls for Alberta to Use Oil and Gas Leverage in US Trade Dispute

Alberta Premier Danielle Smith is under pressure from former cabinet minister Thomas Lukaszuk to use the province's oil and gas as leverage in the trade dispute with the United States. Lukaszuk, leader of the Forever Canadian movement, believes that Alberta should put its energy resources on the negotiating table to counter US President Donald Trump's escalating tariffs.

Lukaszuk describes the situation as 'economic warfare' aimed at Canada's sovereignty and national security. He argues that Smith's decision not to target oil and gas in retaliation gives away Canada's strongest bargaining chip, making it difficult for Ottawa to negotiate effectively with Washington.

The Forever Canadian campaign has gained momentum, distributing over 60,000 lawn signs, recruiting more than 18,000 volunteers, and attracting 11,000 viewers to a recent online town hall. Lukaszuk believes this shows that the trade confrontation is strengthening Canadian identity in Alberta rather than fueling separatism.
