Maersk Completes First US Ship-To-Ship Ethanol Bunkering Operation

Maersk has successfully completed its first ship-to-ship commercial ethanol bunkering of a deep-sea container vessel in the United States. The operation took place aboard the Tangier Maersk, a dual-fuel alcohol-enabled container vessel.

The bunkering used 100% U.S.-produced corn ethanol as fuel. This milestone is part of Maersk's efforts to explore multiple potential fuel pathways for the future of shipping and reduce its carbon footprint.

Ditlev Blicher, Maersk Regional President for North America, said that achieving lower-emission logistics requires turning new technologies into practical, scalable solutions. The insights gained from this operation will help drive the development of more sustainable supply chains.
