Maersk Places Massive LNG-Fueled Container Ship Order

Maersk has ordered 26 large container vessels from Denmark that can run on liquefied natural gas, as part of its ongoing fleet renewal program. The ships will have a capacity of 18,600 twenty-foot equivalent units (TEUs) each and are expected to be delivered in 2029 and 2030.

The order focuses on large-scale capacity and dual-fuel capability, which will enable the ships to run on liquefied natural gas. This move is part of Maersk's broader fleet investment program aimed at reducing emissions.

Maersk has been investing in trade infrastructure alongside its fleet expansion, including a US$350 million electrified container terminal in Brazil and a US$1.7 billion terminal project in Vietnam.
