Mahanagar Gas Ltd (MGL) has announced an increase in the price of compressed natural gas (CNG) and domestic piped natural gas (PNG). The revised CNG price will be Rs 88 per kg, effective from midnight on September 1. This hike is due to higher input costs caused by tensions in the Middle East.

MGL sources a significant portion of its gas through imported spot regasified liquefied natural gas (RLNG), which is currently available at higher prices. The company says the price increase will only partly cover the rise in input costs and help maintain a steady supply to customers.

The hike affects around 13 lakh CNG vehicles across Maharashtra and Karnataka, while the increased PNG price will impact about 30 lakh domestic consumers. This move comes days after Indraprastha Gas Ltd raised its CNG price by Rs 3.89 per kg.
