Malampaya Gas Resumes Supply to Ilijan Power Plant
The Malampaya gas field has resumed natural gas deliveries to the 1,200-megawatt Ilijan Power Plant in Batangas City. A six-month interim supply agreement was signed by Prime Energy, the operator of Service Contract 38, with South Premiere Power Corp. (SPPC) for the Ilijan power plant.
The restoration of the Tabangao-Ilijan Pipeline made this possible, thanks to collaborative efforts among Prime Energy, SPPC, the Philippine National Oil Company-Exploration Corporation (PNOC-EC), and the Power Sector Assets and Liabilities Management Corporation (PSALM).
The use of natural gas is expected to reduce the generation charge by 36 centavos per kilowatt-hour.
