Malaysian Fuel Supplies Expected to Remain Stable Until September
The Malaysian government has assured citizens that fuel supplies will remain stable until September amid the ongoing energy crisis.
Minister in the Prime Minister's Department Datuk Seri Azalina Othman Said made this statement following a weekly meeting of the National Economic Action Council (NEAC), which is constantly monitoring the situation and ensuring supply security for the coming months.
Azalina noted that Petronas, through its publicly listed subsidiary Petronas Dagangan Bhd, covers about 50% of the country's domestic fuel needs. Efforts are being made to obtain crude oil supplies from exporters other than West Asia, such as West Africa and the Americas.
The government is also controlling prices and preventing smuggling and illegal activities. According to Petronas, Malaysia's crude oil reserves are estimated at 3.89 billion barrels of oil equivalent, while natural gas reserves are around 13.19 billion barrels of oil equivalent as of January 1, 2026.
