Manatee Gas Project Set to Bolster Trinidad and Tobago's Energy Sector
Trinidad and Tobago's energy sector is poised for growth with the completion of jackets and piles fabrication at the TOFCO yard in La Brea. The project, led by Shell, aims to tap into the Manatee gas field, which is expected to produce 604 million standard cubic feet of natural gas per day.
This amount of gas, equivalent to 104,000 barrels of oil per day, will be processed at the Beachfield facility and used to support local industries, employment, foreign exchange earnings, and revenue generation. Minister of Energy and Energy Industries Roodal Moonilal emphasized that the country has the necessary infrastructure to process up to one billion standard cubic feet of natural gas per day.
Moonilal noted that the Manatee Plus project will introduce modern operating methods, including automation and digitalization, which will reduce offshore exposure and improve efficiency. He also highlighted the government's efforts to revitalize the oil and gas sector by extracting greater value from mature assets and resources.
