Manhattan Gold Hits Polymetallic Zone at Spectre Prospect
Manhattan Gold Corporation (ASX:MHC) has reported promising results from its maiden drilling at the Spectre prospect within the Hook Lake project in Nunavut, Canada. The drilling intersected a polymetallic zone containing copper, gold, silver, and zinc, all within a broader copper mineralisation area. Notably, the mineralisation was found at shallow depths, which could be significant for future mining assessments and development costs.
The company also identified a high-grade zinc zone near the surface, a common feature in volcanogenic massive sulphide (VMS) systems. A second drilling hole confirmed the mineralisation further along the strike, suggesting the potential for a more extensive deposit rather than an isolated hit. This repeatability is encouraging for geologists mapping the system's structure.
The Spectre prospect is part of the Hook Lake project, which has primarily focused on the Jaws gold target. However, the recent base metal discoveries at Spectre add a new dimension to the project's potential. Manhattan Gold describes itself as an early-stage gold and polymetallic explorer, with Hook Lake and Tibooburra in New South Wales as its key assets. The company is conducting metallurgical tests on samples from both Jaws and Spectre to determine the economic viability of metal recovery.
The market reaction to these results will be closely watched, as explorer share prices can be volatile following such announcements. Pending assays from other Hook Lake targets and plans for the next drilling season are among the key near-term catalysts for the company.
