Marinvest Energy's LNG Pipeline Project Sparks Reconciliation Debate in Quebec

Marinvest Energy is touting its proposed natural gas pipeline and liquefied natural gas (LNG) production facility as a tool for 'reconciliation' with First Nations in Quebec.

The project, valued at $30 billion, would transport Alberta gas to Baie-Comeau on the North Shore of Quebec before being liquefied in three floating plants installed directly on the St. Lawrence River.

The document outlining the project's details describes it as an 'initiative' of the Atikamekw Nation, which must win support from Anishinaabe, Cree and Innu First Nations.

However, Constant Awashish, Grand Chief of the Atikamekw Nation Council, has expressed hopes to obtain public funding for the project and have it referred to the Major Projects Office created by the Carney government.
