Mārup Heating Tariffs Set to Soar by 23%
The municipality of Mārup in Latvia will see a significant increase in heating tariffs starting from October 1. The company responsible for thermal energy supply, Mārupes komunālie pakalpojumi, has attributed the price hike to the higher cost of natural gas.
The recent gas procurement tender resulted in a purchase price of 60.03 euros per megawatt-hour, up from 44.66 euros previously. This represents a 34% increase in the cost of natural gas.
In addition to natural gas, other types of fuel such as wood chips and wood pellets have also seen price increases. Based on these new costs, along with unforeseen expenses for 2025, the thermal energy tariff will be set at 117.82 euros per megawatt-hour instead of the current 95.60 euros.
The cost of thermal energy for consumers is expected to rise by 22.22 euros per megawatt-hour as a result.
