Massachusetts Heating Oil Prices Soar 70% Amid Global Conflict
Heating oil prices in Massachusetts have skyrocketed to $5.98 per gallon, marking a nearly 70% increase from last year's price. This surge is attributed to high crude oil, gasoline, and diesel costs, which are affecting the Northeast region the most.
According to Mark Wolfe, executive director of the National Energy Assistance Directors Association, 'It is a northeast problem.' He explained that heating oil is used heavily in rural areas due to insufficient natural gas pipelines, making households pay more for both gasoline and heating oil.
The rising prices are linked to the U.S. war in Iran and the Russia-Ukraine conflict, which have caused fluctuations in diesel fuel prices. As a result, individual homes can expect to spend about $548 extra this year on heating oil compared to last year.
