McDermott Wins ExxonMobil Rovuma LNG Contract in Mozambique

McDermott International has added a new liquefied natural gas (LNG) project to its portfolio, the ExxonMobil-led Rovuma LNG project in Mozambique. The consortium, led by McDermott Energy Solutions (UK), includes Saipem, Daewoo Engineering & Construction, and China Petroleum Engineering & Construction Corporation as part of the SMDC joint venture.

The project aims to produce over 18 million tons of LNG per year from 12 liquefaction modules. ExxonMobil plans to start production by 2031, with an initial investment expected in the coming months.

This is not McDermott's only involvement in Mozambique's LNG industry, as it is also participating in the front-end engineering design work and EPC for TotalEnergies' Mozambique LNG project. The two projects are considered the largest investments in Mozambique's history, with a total value of over $35 billion.

McDermott has a significant presence in North America's LNG market as well, with ongoing construction on several major projects, including the Golden Pass LNG terminal in Texas and Venture Global LNG's Plaquemines development in Louisiana.
