MCX Precious Metals Rally as Investors Hedge Against Fed Rate Uncertainty
Precious metals on the Multi Commodity Exchange (MCX) gained on Wednesday as investors sought to hedge against uncertainty ahead of the US Federal Reserve's interest rate decision. The rally reflects the role of gold as a defensive asset amidst ongoing inflationary and energy price pressures.
Gold October futures traded near ₹1,52,100 per 10 grams, while silver September futures hovered around ₹2,35,988 per kilogram during the session. Market participants have largely priced in a 25-basis-point interest rate hike, with approximately 92% expecting the central bank to raise borrowing costs.
The combination of geopolitical instability, rising energy costs, and the need to hedge against inflation has kept demand for precious metals steady. Investors are currently looking beyond the immediate rate hike, focusing on the Fed's 'dot plot', the updated economic projection that maps out where officials expect interest rates to be in the future.
