Mediterranean LNG Tanker Hit by Suspected Cyberattack

A liquefied natural gas tanker, Vivit Africa LNG, has reportedly suffered a systems failure that its crew suspects was a cyberattack in the Mediterranean Sea.

The incident occurred early this month as the ship sailed east toward Italy. The crew lost access to internal control systems and were forced to stop off the coast of Italy without unloading its cargo.

Investigations are ongoing, but there is no indication of who may be responsible for the suspected hacking. The tanker had been carrying a cargo loaded at Louisiana's Cameron LNG terminal and was nearing its destination in early September when the issue occurred.
