MERA Oil Nears Site Decision for $5B Refinery and Energy Export Corridor
A consortium of US and Saudi investors is nearing a decision on the site for its planned $5 billion refinery and energy export corridor in the Gulf. The MERA Oil consortium, comprising MWG Enterprises, Patel Family Office, and PWS (an associate company of AHQ Group), has narrowed down its options to three locations outside the Strait of Hormuz after three years of evaluation.
The project aims to establish a 200,000-barrel-per-day integrated refinery linked to deepwater port infrastructure, large-scale storage of crude and refined products, and marine export facilities. The consortium is looking for a host jurisdiction that can provide route-resilience, infrastructure, and development timetable requirements.
Phase One of the capital programme, worth up to $5 billion, will establish a future-ready energy complex incorporating energy-efficient refining technologies and advanced emissions-control systems. Sustainable aviation fuel co-processing and carbon-management capabilities are also being evaluated as potential components of the project design.
